History of Nadi Astrology
Nadi – Literal meaning may be River or reading of pulses or a specific city in Fiji. But Nadi astrology is very different as explained below.
History –
Southern Brahmins possessed texts in Vatteluttu script, which appeared in inscriptions and manuscripts across Tamil Nadu.
The Agathiyar Nadi manuscripts, attributed to sage Agastya Muni, were written on palm leaves and preserved using thumb impressions—right for men, left for women.
Vaitheeshwaran Temple pundits played a key role in spreading these texts.
The Saraswati Mahal Library was the first to preserve these Nadi palm leaf manuscripts in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu.
There are number of nadies, palm leaf inscriptions available named after the sages who composed them. These inscriptions are written in poetic form. Various manuscripts available are Atri Nadi, Jeeva Nadi, Graha Nadi, Siva Nadi, Duruva Nadi, Edumbi Nadi, Saptarishi Nadi, Nandhi Nadi, Bheema Nadi, Nava Nadi, Vashista Nadi, Agasthiya Nadi, Shukha Nadi, Brahma Nadi, Kaushika Nadi, etc.
These granthas are a set of highly organized manuscripts. These are divided in sixteen chapters or kandams. These Kandams explains serial wise the various aspects of materialistic and spiritual life of a person such as family, marriage, profession, wealth, luck, Karma, Moksha, etc.
Modern day exponents of Nadi Astrology mostly follow Bhrigu Nandi Nadi Astrology.
